TL;DR: Normal muscle soreness is a dull, symmetrical ache that peaks around 24 to 48 hours after training and improves with light movement. A real injury tends to announce itself differently, a sharp or localised pain, swelling, pain that gets worse rather than better with movement, or discomfort near a joint rather than through the middle of a muscle. Knowing the difference matters, since pushing through the wrong kind of pain is how a minor issue becomes a much longer setback.
Delayed onset muscle soreness, the dull ache that shows up a day or two after a hard session, is a normal response to training, especially after a new exercise or a jump in intensity. It tends to feel even across a muscle group, eases with light movement and warming up, and steadily improves day by day without any specific treatment needed.
Pain that is sharp, stabbing or concentrated in one exact spot, especially near a joint rather than through a muscle belly, is a different signal entirely. So is pain that gets worse during a session rather than warming up and easing off, swelling that shows up around a joint, or a feeling of instability or weakness that was not there before.
The instinct in a gym culture that celebrates pushing hard is to treat all pain as a sign of effort, which works fine for normal soreness but is exactly the wrong instinct around a real injury. Training through early injury signals rarely ends the session, it usually turns a two week issue into a two month one.
When the type of pain is genuinely unclear, the safer move is to scale the session back rather than push through at full intensity, and to get it assessed rather than guessing. A day or two of caution costs very little, while training through an actual injury at full intensity can cost weeks.
A personal trainer in Andheri West who knows your normal training patterns is often the first person to notice when something feels different, and can help judge whether a movement needs to be modified, reduced or avoided for a few sessions. That kind of judgment call is hard to make accurately on your own, especially mid session.
